MAROON and GREEN
June 30, 2009 by champoyupee
On this day, I made a personal commitment to Manoy Rodel that I would help him gather articles, studies/researches, news reports, etc. on Global Warming for his advocacy.
The colors maroon and green have special touch in my heart (since they are my topmost favorite colors because of UP). Personally.
When I was still a student, I loved visiting the Diliman campus, one reason was its ambiance (so many trees in that campus), but prime among the reasons was because I had a belief that Diliman campus was the real UP =). I guess I was just the Diliman-centric probinsiyano at that time (smile).
Each time I went to a place where there is a UP campus, I would spend half a day there. For example, in Diliman, I would start my walk in the Vinzon’s Hall where the Philippine Collegian’s office was, just to see some friends and also to get Kule copies. Then, next to my destination was the Student Regent’s Office, where the sole representative of UP students to the powerful UP Board of Regents had his/her official business. Student Regents from 2002-2009 were some of my colleagues. Then proceed to the Chapel of Holy Sacrifice (a product of four National Artists coming from the university), to Dili-Mall (Diliman’s Shopping Center for souvenirs such as t-shirts, key chains, etc.), walk around the campus until I would pass by the Bahay ng Alumni, the UP Theater and the College of Music. My last stop was the Quezon Hall where you could see the Oblation Plaza in front of the building. In this plaza, I would stay for more than an hour for some reflection. And in that reflection, I have learned by heart the symbolisms of the Oblation, one of which was on the feet of the Oblation, there is the plant, ’siempre viva’. In the Philippines, it is considered as the ‘wonder plant’ because it grows anywhere. Siempre viva symbolizes one’s undying love for the country.
As I have said indirectly that in one of my reflections was that green is love. PERSONALLY. That’s why, I love the color green. My sign is earth. Green represents nature, ecology or earth. In Manoy Rodel’s advocacy, it is ‘LOVE’ for Mother Earth.=)
Maroon, for me, is being ‘aggressive’ to protect our home. =)
Maroon and green, lastly, are two official colors of the University of the Philippines.
